It’s the routine that gets you

It occurred to me the other day that video game characters run everywhere. I remember being chided by Lara Croft about that once. On the other hand it’s amazing how much time we waste each year doing routine tasks.

I read an article this morning about the time you could be wasting stuck in traffic. It got me thinking about the numbers. I work about 240 days of the year. So every minute I spend in a routine daily task comes to 4 hours per year. I spend about 10 minutes walking to work and 10 minutes walking back. That’s the equivalent of working an extra 10 days a year. One more selling point for teleworking – if the environmental arguments don’t yet have you convinced.

  1. Good point Chris. On the other hand, there are nicer places to get your daily exercise than Croydon High Street.

  2. It’s also 96hrs of exercise a year you’d lose out on by teleworking.
